Molybdenum coatings have been used for many applications for decades and are still used to this day. They are mainly applied through wire flame spraying and can be applied with a coating thicknesses of 0.1 mm to 2 mm.
As a result of the process, proportions of the spray material are oxidized during the coating process. This increases the hardness up to 950 Vickers and thus the wear resistance. On the other hand, specific tribological properties can be set. Due to the porosity of the coating, oil can also be deposited, which improves the emergency running properties.
